Future’s New Album, ‘EVOL,’ Has Arrived

Future is in the midst of a spectacular run that dates back to October 2014, when he released Monster, an aggressive second attempt at cashing in on his potential, which he appeared to fumble months earlier with the lukewarmly received Honest, his sophomore LP. He followed Monster with Beast Mode and 56 Nights, finishing off a dominant trilogy of mixtapes that eventually gave way to the release of two #1 albums in a two month span, one of which found Future teaming with Drake, widely regarded as the biggest rap artist this generation has to offer. Needless to say, if Future took a year off to bask in his newfound fame, no one would complain, and his impact would still be felt whenever he chose to return. However, that doesn’t appear to be in the ATLien’s plans.

During the first few weeks of the year, Future dropped Purple Reign, a free mixtape to commemorate his forthcoming headlining tour of the same name, and promised that it was just a warm-up. He wasn’t kidding. Earlier this week, in conjunction with a bubbling DJ Khaled, Future announced yet another project, an album titled EVOL, which would be world premiered by Khaled on his new Beats1 Radio show tonight, and released exclusively through Apple Music at 9 p.m. ET the same evening. Well, Khaled just (insert signature Khaled chuckle here) let the album go, and now Apple Music has liberated Future’s third album in 7 months, featuring a lone guest appearance by The Weeknd.
