Bring your game, not your name
Stage 37 was the place to be on Thursday night as one of the most talked about New York basketball competitions decided a winner. #FIGHTBALL 03 invited back 8-of-16 ballers selected to compete against one another for the grand prize of $100,000.00, and NYC was heavily represented in the field which consisted of last year’s inaugural champ Mike “Get To It” Tuitt, #FIGHTBALL session 1 champ Marvin “Child Abuser” Roberts, former Rutgers forward J.J. Moore, Malik “Pitbull” Boothe and Tymel Murphy. The rest of the field consisted of out-of-towners like California’s own Eric Williams, Brazilian big man Leandro De Lima
and Andrew Washington, who hails from Washington, DC.
There were disappointing performance from heavy favorites, but some hoopers left it all on the floor. Celebrities and athletes such as DJ Self (Love & Hip Hop: NY), Victor Cruz (NY Giants), Tyreke Evans (New Orleans Pelicans) and Chanel Iman were in attendance to witness high intense basketball at its best. With a soundtrack produced by the legendary Just Blaze and DJ Clark Kent, Fightball brought the party atmosphere, especially during timeouts and halftimes, as G.O.O.D. Music’s own Pusha T surprised fans with a dope performance.
When the dust settled, the last two standing were Andrew Washington and Leandro De Lima. In a scrappy rematch from the Session 2 Championship match-up last Thursday, Washington growled, clawed, and fought his way to the top to take home $100,000 (and bragging rights) as the new #FIGHTBALL champion.
