Former Heisman Trophy winner and Ohio State Buckeye Troy Smith was arrested today on DUI and weed possession charges today, and per footage from TMZ, it wasn’t by any stretch a routine arrest. In the video footage above, you can see a very not sober Smith–his blood alcohol level was reported to be .143, the legal limit is .08–interact poorly with a police officer, telling the cop that he has a “degree in Bachelor’s” from Ohio State University, and struggling to recite his ABC’s from C to W, as requested by the officer.
Aside from his apparent intoxication, Smith reportedly had two blunts on his dashboard, which isn’t on the short list of things you’d want an officer to find just before or after you’ve drawn a blank on every letter in the alphabet after “I.” It’s an unfortunate fall from grace for Smith, who was an outstanding collegiate player, and led the 2006-2007 Ohio State Buckeyes to the BCS National Championship Game, where they were taken down by Tim Tebow and the Florida Gators. He wasn’t short of individual accomplishments either, winning the Heisman Trophy and Associated Press Player of the Year awards in 2006, and was named the ESPN Big Ten Player of the Decade in 2010. His college success didn’t translate to the pro level however, and after brief stints with the 49ers and Ravens, Smith found himself alternating between the CFL and the Pittsburgh Steelers practice squad.
For the record, Smith graduated from Ohio State with a Bachelors degree in Communications.
