The Los Angeles Rams Select Jared Goff With the #1 Pick in the NFL Draft

Originally, the Tennessee Titans had the #1 pick in this year’s NFL Draft–which is going down right now in Chicago–but the Rams, who relocated to Los Angeles from St. Louis in what’s expected to be a pivotal offseason for them, traded a boatload of current and future draft picks to the Titans for the honor to pick first this year. It’s no secret that the Rams need a quarterback, having shipped Sam Bradford, who at one point was expected to be their franchise player, to Philadelphia, and having struck out on the Nick Foles experiment.

Today, they take their first step in a new, sunnier direction, as they’ve selected Jared Goff with the very first pick of the first round of this year’s draft. Goff was a standout for the Univ. of California Golden Bears, throwing for over 12,000 yards and 96 touchdowns during his three-year tenure. In his final year, he set Pac-12 records for single-season passing yards and touchdown passes, and was named First-team All-Pac-12.

Goff will likely be the Rams’ 5th opening day starting quarterback of the last 5 years, so it’s safe to say the Rams and head coach Jeff Fisher have their fingers crossed that he turns into a serious franchise player.
