Several sources are reporting Alden Ehrenreich is set to play a young Han Solo in the upcoming Star Wars spin-off series. Ehrenreich recently starred in the film Hail, Caesar! and received positive reviews for his performance.
The plot of the film about the young Han Solo has been kept tightly under wraps by Disney, but the film will presumably fill in Han’s background before he was introduced in the original trilogy, and hopefully show us how he met his wooly friend, Chewbacca.
The Han Solo spin-off film is set to begin shooting in 2017, with a release date in May 2018. The next film from the Star Wars franchise, Rogue One, will come out this December. Rogue One follows the story of the rebels that stole the plans for the Death Star, which leads into the story line of the original trilogy.
Disney has declined to comment on whether or not the rumors surrounding Ehrenreich and Han Solo are true. Per Box Office Mojo, as of May 1st, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the first Star Wars film by Disney, has grossed over 900 million dollars in the U.S. and over 1.1 billion abroad, so Disney will be looking to continue their success with the Star Wars franchise.
