Dwight Howard Says He Has Hit the “Reset Button”

Yesterday [Thursday, May 19], Dwight Howard spoke with Jackie MacMullan, a senior writer for ESPN, about the state of his career. MacMullan covered each of the major events in Dwight’s career, looking for the big-man’s insight into what he has gone through over the course of his career.

Howard opens up about his departure from the Orlando Magic, and the deteriorating relationship he had with the head coach at the time, Stan Van Gundy. Howard also addressed his time in Los Angeles as a member of the Lakers, and why he chose to leave after only one season.

Howard also discusses the turbulent season he had in Houston this year, and how he had to overcome personal doubts and fears, and just get back to playing basketball. He revealed that he asked the Rocket’s general manager, Daryl Morey, for more involvement in the team’s offense and that Morey told him:

“No, we don’t want you to be.”

Howard also did not shed any light on whether or not he will opt out of the final year of his contract with Houston. With this interview, as well as his previous interview with the TNT crew, Howard seems to be actively trying to change the opinions around his career and his perceived attitude. Whether he is trying to sell other teams on his personality, or simply trying to clear the air after a tumultuous season, Howard has a major decision to make in this off-season.
