Indigenous Australian MC/Producer Trials Is Breaking Barriers Down Under

Trials is an Australian emcee / producer in the groups Funkoars (w/ Hons, Sesta and New York City’s own DJ Total Eclipse) and A.B. Original with Briggs on Golden Era Records.

Born in Australia, Trials grew up in south Wales from three until 11 as the only Black kid in a white classroom, dealing with racism both in the UK and back in Australia. Trials’ Indigenous heritage is held closely to him and is consciously touched on well with his partner in rhyme Briggs in their newly formed Indigenous pairing, A. B. Original.

Trials has established himself as both a talented emcee and producer, and through his unique upbringing has a compelling and captivating story to tell has been co-signed from everyone from Australia’s best to Ice Cube.

Trials’ group the Funkoars formed in 1999 and coming to nationally prominent in 2002 through the Culture of Kings Volume 2 release with the Funkoars under the careful guidance of local don Kirk One and through the well-trodden traditional path of emcee battling. Trials has since cemented himself as one of the finest emcee / producer combination to emerge from Australia and has produced well beyond hip hop to everything from Hollywood films, TV Shows, adverts, sport broadcasts and everything in between

With his group the Funkoars, he has released four album and an EP, toured nationally and played the festival circuit. Along with being one of the emcee of the group, Trials has also produced a significant amount of their catalogue as well. He has also worked with other top quality Australia artists including Hilltop Hoods, K21, Vents, Drapht, Reason, Briggs, Tom Thum, Brad Strut, Urthboy, Terra Firma. This double combination of talents has lead him to go on to support Gang Starr, Apathy & Celph Titled and Public Enemy and his legendary live performances leave a lasting impression on new and old fans alike.

Trials has recently formed the group ‘A.B. Original’ with fellow indigenous emcee and Golden Era Records label mate Briggs and have just finished a sold out national arena tour with the Hilltop Hoods throughout Australia. The debut album from A.B. Original is scheduled to be released later this year (featuring undisclosed West Coast American collaborations), as is the Funkoars highly anticipated fifth full-length release titled In Case of Emergency, with the first single Mad As Hell recently released.
