The Rih-Navy is going wild, this week! The MTV Video Music Awards will honor Rihanna with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. It is the top award of the night [Sunday, August 28].
The Bajan singer was in the midst of her ANTI Tour when she received the news. She took to Instagram to thank MTV today. The announcement follows the double platinum certification of “Needed Me” by the RIAA.
Rihanna will perform at the Madison Square Garden event and join the likes of Michael Jackson, Madonna, Justin Timberlake, Kanye West, Britney Spears, and Beyonce. Besides the award, Rih received four nominations. two are for the debut single off ANTI, “Work” featuring Drake. The other two come from her collaboration with Calvin Harris, “This Is What Your Came For.”
