Narcisco Rodriguez’s designs have graced magazine covers, red carpets and the First Lady. The Cuban-American designers now takes on his first solo exhibition at a Miami museum in October.
The Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum at Florida International University will collect his sketches, designs and artistic inspiration in “Narcisco Rodriguez: An Exercise in Minimalism.” Fifty designs with the Narcisco Rodriguez name will christen the museum with its first couture exhibition and span over the New Jersey-native’s 18-year career.
Museum staff partnered with Elle Magazine’s Creator Director, Alex Gonzalez, to curate. The exhibition will last four months [October 09, 2016 – January 08, 2017] at the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum. It will eventually coincide with Miami Beach’s prestigious Art Basel, one third of an international art fair focusing on modern work.
Rodriguez’s simple and sharp designs fit right in as other creative minds come to indulge in minimalism. In a statement to the Hollywood Reporter, he said, “I am honored to be asked to be part of the celebrated history of exhibitions presented by the Frost Art Museum FIU — and particularly excited to do so during Art Basel Season in Miami.”
