Out of Toronto, comes Erich Mrak, an artist laying simplistic lyrics through relevant topics of choice. From his Retrospect EP, Mrak delivers a unique music video from the August-released EP. What easily could look to be a visual for the song “Retrospect,” turns out to be the home of 3 of the four songs housed on the extended play.
“You’ve Changed,” “I’ll Be Fine,” and “Fall” are all highlighted within that order. The connection between the three songs — tag into one another through Mrak’s ability to tell a story. While none of the songs are alike in the sense of subject, they all connect through vibe, production, and rhythm. All of the songs are produced by Bento.
Mrak crosses the bridges of love, late nights and early mornings, plus more. While this stands as Mrak’s only video release of 2016, 2017 will present itself with much more material from the Toronto native. The only song that goes without visuals is “Fall,” being the last and final song on the project. “Float” actually connects well with the other songs, but Mrak decides not to include the single into the mix.
Although his music is marked as Pop, Mrak touches on a many of different genres, including but not limited to: hip-hop, alternative rock, and of course, pop.
Throughout the duration of the EP, Mrak keeps his tone fairly similar every time. The production comes with Bento’s warm pop-sounding thrust that remains easy on the ears. With 2017 wrapping its way around the corner, it will be interesting how this Toronto artist moves his artistry forward.
