This is definitely a close case of identity theft.
Lala Kent of Bravo reality show Vanderpump Rules recently stopped by SiriusXM’s The Jenny McCarthy Show and dropped insight into her TV star lifestyle. Totally not hip-hop related, but here is the connection. The reality star made a claim that the spirit of west coast hip-hop icon Tupac Shakur took over her body at the time of his ill-timed passing.
The host queried Kent about her grand social media presence by saying how a “beautiful Utah girl can turn into like this cool, hood chick.” In response, she expressed her “firm” belief the west coast legend is responsible for the “hood chick” in her. “I don’t know where that comes from, I mean I am a firm believer that when Tupac died he took over my body. I know you’re laughing but I’m being for real.”
Laughable, indeed. For additional laughs, Kent revealed that in honor of her Tupac possessiveness, she decided to get the legend’s idiom “thug life” tatted on her ankle. “I recently just got ‘thug life’ tattooed on me and I feel so happy about it. It’s by my…the inside ankle on my left and it’s up and down in my handwriting, it looks like a prison stamp.” Submerged in contradiction and illusion, Kent later acknowledges her reality saying, “The thing is I’ve never been in a fight before. I am as boujee and white as they come but I gets to clapping sometimes, pretend you know?”
Another reality Kent perhaps should take into consideration is Tupac Shakur’s true character which involved a true sense of self-awareness, valued activism, and unrestrained expression. Thug Life did not choose Kent.
“I didn’t choose the Thug life, the Thug life chose me. All I’m trying to do is survive and make good out of the dirty, nasty unbelievable lifestyle that they gave me.” -Tupac Shakur
