When it comes to business many know that Damon Dash is not one to play with in regards to money, so when he saw Empire director, Lee Daniels, who he claims owed him money for an unpaid loan; Dame showed exactly why that reputation is in place.
In a video Dash posted to his Instagram account, you can see him addressing the loan with Daniels seemingly on a stage. The clip which shows Daniels agreeing that he, in fact, owes the debt, Damon confronts the director about a loan of $2 million for the Academy Award-winning film Precious which Dash also alleges that he was cheated out of film credit for back in 2015.
“I straight up loaned this dude Lee Daniels @theoriginalbigdaddy 2 million to pay for his dream of being a director…it was the money I was using to fund my movies and stay Indy…he promised I get my money back in months…then he makes precious and goes missing so he doesn’t have to pay me…then Butler…empire…same shit Why does this dude feel like he doesn’t have to pay me?…why do I have to look crazy to get my money back…or go to court,” Dash said on his post of the incident.
After the confrontation, TMZ reports that Dash did make good on his word and filed a lawsuit for the unpaid funds with interest totaling $5 million.
The suit claims that Daniels promised to try to get him on as an Executive Producer for a Richard Pryor biopic, along with 5 percent on Daniels’ backend profits.
According to the docs, Daniels bailed on the project and didn’t deliver on his promises to Dame.
“True definition of a culture vulture @culturevultures_book …eats off the culture but Robs the culture at the same time,” Dash continued. “See you back in court Lee your gonna pay me what you owe…please everyone ask him way he doesn’t think he has to pay me.”
