Many people are still reeling from the tragic death of Nia Wilson. They have expressed their support via Instagram and other social channels.
Anne Hathaway was one of the first celebrities to step forward and speak out calling justice. Amazingly, Hathaway also addressed white privilege and encourage people to be accountable.
Now other celebs are speaking up for Wilson. Using the hashtag #SayHerName they intend to spread awareness about the tragedy. Among those paying tribute are Viola Davis, Lena Waithe, Common and Tracee Ellis Ross.
In a tweet, Davis makes a powerful statement. She writes:
“I’m getting tired of the heartbreak. Tired of needing to organize to convince people that our lives matter.” Furthermore, “To the killer…I will NOT say your name. To Nia…we will shout yours from the rooftops!!!”
Both Common and Elis Ross showed support by retweeting a tribute video, originally shared by Chicago rapper Chika Oranika.
Songstress Janelle Monáe also chimed in on the movement with an Instagram post featuring an illustration of the slain woman. The caption read “Your name means something to us and we won’t stop saying it.”
Kehlani joined the movement taking to Twitter she wrote:
“Sending so much love to people born and raised in the bay area before this new wave of hate, racism, and gentrification… shits almost unrecognizable sometimes. Can’t afford to live here anymore THEN risk being murdered by racist white folks who ain’t from here to begin with?”
With her accused killer in custody, the process of justice is now underway.
