Martin Luther King Jr. Day will forever be a day that Orlando-based rapper King Varciti celebrates with pomp and circumstance. Not only is it a day that means a lot to him culturally, but it’s also the day that has served as a rebirth for him personally. It’s the day he was released from prison after two years.

About a month prior to being sentence to prison two years ago, King Varciti had dropped his first mixtape “Spazzmatic.” He was poised to take the industry by storm and showcase a new sound and style to the world. So it should come as no surprise that every moment of his time inside was filled with battling impatience to pick up his music career where he’d left off.

Well, he’s back … and he’s ready to go bigger and better than ever.

The first thing he did when he got out of prison was go buy a cell phone. Then he went to get a pizza from Italian restaurant. Then he got to work on re-starting his music career.

In conjunction with his business partner, Pope, King Varciti owns the independent label AMG Music Group – often referred to as AMG Hoodstars. The A in the name refers to Anunnaki, the Sumarian god who is attributed for the creation of man. The group uses that name as a reference to the creation of great music that will circle the globe in powerful ways.

For King Varciti that means re-releasing “Spazzmatic,” while also highlighting a couple of singles that he’s been working on. One of those songs is a single called “Ya.” It’s slated to drop before the end of March, and is a radio-ready hit according to King Varciti.

“It’s gonna kill the radio right there, and soon it’ll be spinning across the world,” he said. “It’s like a sexy trap songs, and the ladies are gonna love it. In Spanish, ‘Ya’ means ‘Now.’ In the song I’m using it as a way to look at many different things – like, ‘Ya, we kickin it’ or ‘Ya, let’s do this.’ And this song is just the first of a lot of media that I’m gonna start dropping. I just want to get that fan-base bigger and bigger and spreading the music out so everyone gets a chance to hear what we’ve got. That’s the plan – spread it out as far as it will go.”

Though King Varciti’s unique sound and style is still the same as it was prior to his time in prison, he admits that the two years have given him a maturity that has led to an evolution of his music. Not only does he have more things to talk about through his lyrics, but he’s also learned how to turn up the quality on his music. He calls his music “More intelligent street music that still raw like an ape.” That being said, all of the music he and the label creates is upbeat and positive. He said the intention behind the music is to get people energized and having fun – forgetting their worries for a little bit and just letting loose and enjoying life.

“I want them to feel the feeling of being turnt up when they listen to my music,” he said. “I want the youngins to listen to somebody who’s been through it. A lot of rappers talk shit but haven’t been through nothing. I think it’s better to listen to somebody who’s been through it. And in my own way I’m telling people to just go out there and get it, however you can get it. But be safe and know that there are consequences to everything you do.”

Some of that mantra he said he learned from a young age. He grew up with a family that had close ties to the hip-hop industry. His uncle worked under the stage name Shambu and worked with a number of bigger names in the industry.
