Steve Harvey Makes Another Mistake at Miss Universe Pageant

By: Dylan Kemp

Back in 2015, Steve Harvey made national headlines when he mistakenly read the wrong winner’s name during the Miss Universe pageant, Steve has gone on to host the last 5 Miss Universe pageants, seemingly without mistakes. That was, until Sunday night.

Steve mistakenly announced the wrong winner during the National Costume category of the Miss Universe 2019 pageant. While an image of Miss Philippines Gazini Ganados, in costume, flashed on the screen, Harvey
called the woman next to him, Miss Malaysia Shewta Sekhon, the winner of the competition.

“This is it right here, I thought I had on something fly,” Harvey told Miss Malaysia.

“It’s not Philippines,” she said. “It’s Malaysia.”

The comedian blamed the mix up this time on the teleprompter. “Let me explain something to you. I just read that in the teleprompter,” he explained. “Y’all got to quit doing this to me. I can read. Now, they are trying to fix it now. See? This is what they did to me back in 2015 – played me short like that. This is Malaysia.”

Harvey poked fun at his 2015 mistake in his opening monologue. “I’m hosting again. Fifth time. Can you believe it? I can’t,” he said. “Y’all never really did let go of that Miss Colombia thing. I survived it all. When you fall, get up. Colombia has gotten over that, too. They’ve forgiven me. Well, not all of them. The cartel is still tripping a little bit.”

The internet seemed to notice Harvey’s mix up and went in on him, but not as bad as in 2015.
