The Haitian rap community has several notable figures that hold a place in the hearts of the island nation’s rap fans. None of them are more revered than the legendary Fantom. A member of the seminal group Barikad Crew and serving as one of the pioneers of Haiti’s rap scene, Fantom has sometimes even been referred to as the Jay Z or 2pac of Haiti. This level of admiration was chronicled on Revolt TV’s documentary “Coming Home: Haiti.” With a myriad of albums and singles to his name, Fantom has returned with a new album titled “Rap Onorab,” which translates to Honorable Rap.
The album’s release comes with a major announcement that Fantom has inked a deal with Barvensky Media Group. The rapper has since been quoted saying that signing with BMG and CEO Carl Barvensky Paul was the best decision he ever made. From the looks of it, Fantom seems to be correct, considering that his album release party on Instagram Live garnered over 25K viewers. The 19-track album finds Fantom with renewed energy and features guest appearances from several high profile Haitian artists, most notably Miami resident Zoey Dollaz and the former President of Haiti Michel Martelly aka Micky.
