Its been over 100 days, countless protests, and Breonna Taylor’s killers are still at large. Her petition on Change.org garnered the second most signatures in the site’s history, following George Floyd.
The petition has over 10 million signatures and is urging for the arrest of John Mattingly, Brett Hankison, Myles Cosgrove, Joshua Jaynes—as well as “any other law enforcement officer involved in the death and coverup of the death” to be “fired, charged, and arrested immediately” and for their pensions to be revoked. It also calls for Taylor’s family to be “paid in damages for wrongful death and the negligence of the LMPD,” the no-knock law to be banned, finally the petition is calling for the Governor to speak on behalf of Taylor’s family, and Attorney Daniel Cameron to “appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the Louisville Police Department.”
The petition is still gaining signatures most likely because the demands haven’t been met. Gov. Andy Beshear advocated for justice for Taylor’s family and already made it clear that an “ in-house investigation is unacceptable.” But that didn’t stop Cameron from appointing himself as special prosecutor on the case.
Hankison was the only officer who was fired from the case. But there has been no action made towards getting justice for Breonna Taylor who was gunned down in her sleep.
You can’t even sleep while being Black in America.
