Today, the world is witnessing yet another deadly pan-demic – the COVID-19. As indicated by the World Health Organization (WHO), roughly 3,000,000 individuals have lost their lives up till now. This enormous effect has led to an accumulation of emotional, financial, and spiritual stress in people.
To overcome such stressful times, individuals look for inspiration to live through the day without losing their sanity. A few people prefer reading books or working out, while others like to cope with it through music. As listening to music is one of the most common coping mechanisms, it comes as a responsibility of all music artists to create tunes and melodies that help listeners connect with it. One such artist fulfilling his responsibility is “Duley Trucc,” born Tevin Speights. He has set up grounds in making music by ad-dressing and empowering people during the ongoing pandemic (COVID-19).
Recognizing his Abilities
Empowering people is not as easy as it sounds. It requires dedication, consistency, and passion. Duley Trucc is an individual who has managed to emerge out as a musical artist who does not believe in ‘fame’ for himself. Instead, he wants to serve the world with the talent he possesses. His passion for music and his ability to understand the harsh realities of life dates back to his childhood.
Tevin was born to Liz Cunningham and Lee Speights on November 21st, 1991. Even as a young child, Tevin was passionate about rapping. He rapped while he was in 4th grade and used to perform freestyle in front of his friends. Although Tevin’s friends used to listen and enjoy his freestyle, nobody encouraged him as much as one of his friend’s elder brothers did. There was a story behind ‘no encouragement from friends, which he did not realize until he was old enough to comprehend the world’s harshness.
Tevin was a young and free soul with high moral values. Despite being a strong individual, he became the victim of racial intimidation for a race with people of color. The bullies were people who Tevin attended school with. While he was still enrolled in high school, he got into a fight with one of them and got expelled, putting his future at stake.
It was the point of realization for Tevin. He realized that there might be other people facing different challenges just like he was dealing with bullying. It empowered him, and he developed a sense of responsibility towards the world. Tevin’s motive in life was now to pursue his passion, develop it into a career, and help turn the world into a ‘place for all.’
From here, the journey from Tevin Speights to Duley Trucc began.
The Journey from Tevin Speights to ‘Duley Trucc’
Tevin composed his first song called “Friday the 13th.” He was in his 7th grade when he began the journey of adopting the stage name. Now, Duley Trucc was on a journey to achieve his dreams and goals, addressing social issues out there. Listening to famous musical artists such as Gucci, Jeezy, Jay-Z, Eminem, Diddy, and 50 cents, Duley Trucc developed a unique approach to music. It led him to release his first mixtape called “Foreign Lifestyle.”
Duley Trucc further went on to work on his debut album called “Mechanic,” composing fourteen tracks. The album consists of a fusion of different music genres relating to people’s lives. With his first album, the emerging artist proved himself to be multi-dimensional in terms of the instruments used; the lyrics penned down, the rhythm that tied the lyrics and brought them to life, and the vocals contributing to the richness of the album. With his unique adaptation, Duley Trucc soon managed to acquire a global fan base. It was not long when people started looking up to him as an emerging artist during COVID-19.
The Thought Behind Creating the Music Addressing COVID-19
Duley Trucc had a difficult and challenging childhood, which led to developing a soft corner in his heart that longed to help. When COVID-19 in 2019 was in its early stages, the world began to panic. People had to adapt to new lifestyles, where staying away from each other became a necessity. This rapid lifestyle change affected everyone. People were in search of ways to heal themselves. At this point, Duley Trucc felt the need to inspire and empower people through his music. As a responsible musical artist, he created songs that advised people to wear masks to prevent the spread of viruses, ensuring everyone’s safety. He utilized the talent of fusing different genres of music to help people understand that tough times do not last long, and there will certainly be a way out.Today, Duley Trucc uses his voice and vocal abilities to connect with people from all over the world. Amidst COVID-19, he also wants to convey a message that people can help each other in unique ways. If Duley Trucc is doing it through his music, others can always spread words of kindness to empower each other. With passion and determination, the emerging musical artist has set a benchmark to empower people worldwide and address that the world is in it together.
