Meet L.A.’s Gio Franklin

Gio Franklin is a talented songwriter and singer who followed his passion and is now making headlines in the music industry. Shooting to fame at just 15 years when he released his first single, which attracted more than 1M views across music streaming platforms, the young star is widely known for his unique vocal range. He has also recently released his second album, G-STAR 2, a continuation of his first album G-STAR.

According to the LA-based star, music has always been his go-to, whether in good or bad times, since he was young. He recalls listening to some of the legendary artists in the industry and how energized and inspired it always made him feel. A feeling he explains as rare. It was then he started writing his own music, and he could spend most of his time in the studio just writing down a new song or listening to music.  In his words, “I find writing music calming, and it’s my way of connecting with my emotions.” Creating his music, Gio does not restrict himself to any particular genre. His songs range from pop, hip-hop, rap, R&B to EDM.

Besides music, Gio is also an actor; he featured on the Netflix series ‘Last Chance U’ and is a skilled footballer. Unfortunately, he got an injury as a freshman and had to quit football and solely focus on music. His football skills saw him receive an Athletic All-American Honor from his high school.

Highlighting challenges he has encountered as a musician, like most people, Gio has been affected by the ongoing Covid-19. He notes that early last year, he was set to do a tour alongside GASHI and Tinashe, which was canceled.  However, he found his own way to deal with the challenge, and instead, he used this time to create his new album, which was released early this year and has attracted a lot of attention from the public. To keep in touch with his fanbase, Gio uses his Instagram and Facebook, where he sometimes holds online concerts.

Coming from an athletic background, Gio is grateful that he learned the value of self-motivation at a young age. He urges young people to never give up on their dreams and, above all, believe in themselves. “When you believe in yourself, then nothing will ever hold you back,” says Gio. You will be more confident in your work, and you will require no validation from anyone. “Anything is possible,” adds Gio, “all it takes is for you to take that first step and work towards your dreams.”

The talented singer/songwriter moved from his hometown of Kansas City to LA in pursuit of his dreams. Determined to make his voice heard, his musical influence has grown in and out of LA, opening more opportunities for the young musician. He is looking to release more music and partner with Adam Quinn and his newly started record label, Apex Records. His latest album, G-STAR 2, is available on his Youtube channel and Soundcloud.
