The bad news continues for Jonathan Majors. As reported by Variety, he was set to play NBA superstar Dennis Rodman in a much-hyped biopic based on the former Chicago Bulls champion.
As the report says, Majors is in the Lionsgate film entitled 48 Hours in Vegas. The studio further distanced themselves by releasing the film all together and handing the rights back to the producers. Sheesh.
48 Hours in Vegas was based on a little-known story that followed Rodman’s inconceivable Las Vegas trip that went down during the 1998 NBA Finals.
The film project has been in limbo after Majors was arrested in early 2023 following a domestic dispute with his now ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari. Now that he has been convicted on two misdemeanor assault and harassment charges, the studio ultimately dropped the hammer.
As it works in Hollywood, without a star attachment of Major caliber and a studio of Lionsgate’s scale, the film’s packaging process has to start over. Things are completely hopeless. The producers are Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who know what they’re doing, and with screenwriter Jordan VanDina still on board, there may be hope for 48 Hours in Vegas. Lord and Miller produce for their Lord Miller production banner alongside Adiya Sood. Other executive producers are Dennis Rodman himself, Ari Lubet and Will Allegra.
It seems like ages ago, but back in March of last year, Majors ran and was super excited to play the NBA rebounding legend. In an interview with AP Entertainment he said:
“[Rodman] is definitely a role where I’m definitely going to make sure I’m pushing that ceiling out because he demands that,” he said. “He’s such a full individual. So he’s going to demand a lot. I’ve got to figure out how to get that.”
Majors has always maintained his innocence and says he will mount a vigorous appeal.
