SOURCE SPORTS: Yankees Are First Team In MLB With 50 Wins In 2024 After 8-1 Over Red Sox

The Bronx is burning, with Aaron Judge and the boys keeping the fire lit in New York, making the Yankees the first team in the Major Leagues with 50 wins in 77 games so far this season after beating the Sox in Boston 8-1.

Just weeks before the All-Star break, the Yanks beat the Red Sox in Fenway Park 8-1, giving them the best record in Major League Baseball in 2024. Former Red Sox center fielder Alex Verdugo was the catalyst to help push his team to the new 50-game plateau by driving in four RBis, which is a career high for Verdugo. The Yankees managed to snag the 28-year-old in a rare deal between the division rivals back in December after he spent four seasons with the BoSox.

Pitcher Luis Gi chalked up his ninth straight decision after only allowing one run, four BBs and fours hits in five innings on the mound. In 11 starts, the rookie touts a 9-0 record so far, with an impressive 1.64 ERA. New York’s relief pitchers Tommy Kahnle, Caleb Ferguson, Victor González and Michael Tonkin, only allowed one man on the bag and racked up eight Ks in the final four innings against the Sox.

Brayan Bello (6-4) took the L after giving up five runs, four earned, on six hits and three walks with five strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings.

The Bronx Bombers are at least five games ahead of every other team in the American League, with the Orioles only five GB in the AL East, while Cleveland has 44 Ws and the Mariners have 41. The Yanks have closer competition in the 50 win club in the National League from the NL East-leading Phillies, who have 47 wins, while the NL West leaders, the L.A. Dodgers, have 43 wins, while the Brewers lead the NL Central Division with 40.

Boston will have the chance to even the score in their three-game series against New York in Fenway today(June 15), with southpaw Carlos Rodón to take the mound for the Yankees and Cooper Criswell to take the rubber for the Red Sox.
