After a long period of uncertainty, Jonathan Majors’ highly anticipated performance in Magazine Dreams is finally set to hit theaters. The trailer, which premiered recently, showcases Majors in a gripping role as an amateur bodybuilder pushing his physical and mental limits in a quest for greatness. Originally praised at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival, the film was delayed following Majors’ legal troubles, but it’s now slated for release under Briarcliff Entertainment on March 21, 2025.
Magazine Dreams tells the story of Killian Maddox, an aspiring bodybuilder whose obsession with success leads him down a dangerous path. Majors not only stars in the film but also serves as an executive producer. The movie’s raw and emotional trailer has already garnered praise, reminding audiences of the buzz surrounding the film before Majors’ legal issues began affecting his career trajectory.
The controversy surrounding those events led to the film being shelved by Searchlight Pictures. However, Magazine Dreams was later picked up by Briarcliff Entertainment, offering a fresh start for the project. Briarcliff CEO Tom Ortenberg expressed his excitement for the film’s release, highlighting Majors’ transformative performance.
“Elijah’s film made a well-deserved splash in Sundance, and Briarcliff is looking forward to taking his story to the big screen across the country in early 2025,” Ortenberg said in a statement. “Jonathan Majors’ transcendent performance as Killian Maddox will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the most compelling and transformative roles in recent cinema history. We are honored to bring this extraordinary work to theaters nationwide, inviting audiences to witness a story that will resonate long after the credits roll.”
Writer and director Elijah Bynum also shared his relief at the film finally reaching a wider audience. “Dozens of incredibly talented people poured their time, energy, and creativity into bringing this film to life, and I am immensely proud of their work,” said Bynum. “I’m grateful to Tom Ortenberg and Briarcliff Entertainment for their unwavering support, passion, and for giving this film the opportunity to reach a wider audience.”
Alongside Majors, the film features a strong supporting cast, including Haley Bennett, Taylour Paige, Mike O’Hearn, Harriet Sansom Harris, and Harrison Page. Executive producers include Luke Rodgers, Andrew Blau, and Zeus Network CEO Lemuel Plummer, with Zeus Network also serving as a marketing partner.
As Magazine Dreams gears up for its theater release, it marks a pivotal moment for Majors, whose career has faced significant turbulence following the legal battles. The film’s release will be a key test in his comeback, with audiences eager to see if Majors can reclaim his place as one of Hollywood’s most compelling actors.
