On this date in 1976, rapper, actor, and entrepreneur Cameron Giles, better known as Cam’ron, was born in New York City.
After the breakup of Harlem’s legendary group Children of the Corn, Cam’ron and childhood friend Mason Betha took separate paths, with Cam dropping his debut solo album Confessions of Fire, while Mase found mainstream success with his Harlem World LP under Bad Boy Records.
Cam’s career leveled up in 2001 when he signed with Roc-A-Fella Records and released his third and most celebrated album, Come Home With Me, home to classics like “Oh Boy” and “Hey Ma.” His cinematic presence also grew, starring in Roc-A-Fella Films productions like Paid in Full, Paper Soldiers, Death of a Dynasty, and State Property 2.
Beyond music and film, Cam continues to expand his empire. His sports talk show It Is What It Is has become a cultural phenomenon, proving that Killa Cam’s influence stretches far beyond hip-hop. Meanwhile, fans are still anticipating the second installment of his Purple Haze series as he continues to push his solo and Dipset endeavors forward.
Happy Birthday to the Dipset General, Cam’ron!
