After spending nearly four years locked up, YFN Lucci is finally a free man. According to WSBTV, the Georgia Department of Corrections confirmed that the Atlanta rapper was released earlier today (January 31). His return to the outside world comes just weeks after journalist Loren Lorosa hinted at an impending release, telling fans to “stay ready.”
“A source close to the rapper tells me Lucci will be released ANY DAY NOW,” Lorosa tweeted at the time. “His team is literally checking their phones daily for the call.” While he does have conditions to follow post-release, Lorosa assured fans that they’re “nothing too crazy.”
Lucci, born Rayshawn Bennett, was arrested in 2021 on RICO charges. He later pleaded guilty to one count of violating Georgia’s Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act, leading to a 10-year sentence with 10 years of probation. However, his early release isn’t exactly a surprise. Back in November, his label, Think It’s A Game Records, revealed that he had a tentative parole date set for January 2025. Then, in July 2024, Fulton County DA Fani Willis even supported his early release, writing in a letter to the State Board of Pardons and Paroles that the prosecution “does not object” to Lucci’s freedom—so long as he maintained good behavior.
As of now, Lucci has yet to make a public statement, leaving fans eager to see what’s next for the Wish Me Well rapper. One thing’s for sure, though—his return won’t include a rekindled romance with Reginae Carter. The daughter of Lil Wayne made it clear during a recent Morning Hustle interview that she’s moving forward and not looking back.
Now that Lucci’s home, all eyes are on what’s next. Will he jump back into music? Time will tell.
