Ya’ll remember when Lil Wayne posted that somber response to not being chosen to headline the 2025 Super Bowl? The response from the interwebs was not super kind and somewhat controversial.
But Weezy expertly transformed his initial “sensitive” response to the Super Bowl halftime show into a clever and humorous ad for Cetaphil. The rapper recently confirmed that he and Kendrick Lamar had a conversation about the Super Bowl, where he wished Lamar well and told him to “kill it” during his performance. But Wayne took his feelings about not headlining the Super Bowl halftime show and turned them into an ad campaign.
Wayne had previously felt hurt when the NFL chose Lamar instead of him, even describing it as “ripped away from him.” However, in a recent interview with Skip Bayless, Wayne explained that he has since come to terms with it, saying, “I’ve spoken to [Kendrick], and I wish him all the best and I told him he better kill it.”
Get this, the ad, which Wayne previewed earlier this week, opens with him sitting in a studio. He’s informed that an unnamed “entity” is “going in another direction,” clearly referencing Lamar’s selection as the halftime headliner. Wayne, initially disappointed by the news, asks for a bottle of Cetaphil lotion on the table. After applying the moisturizer, he quickly finds relief, playing on the idea of soothing his “sensitive” side.
The clip then shows Wayne inserting himself into other moments where sensitivity calls for some Cetaphil, creating a humorous take on handling life’s emotional moments with a bit of skincare.
In a surprise twist at the end of the ad, Wayne announces skipping the Super Bowl to focus on finishing his upcoming album, Tha Carter VI. He drops the bombshell of a release date: June 6, 2025.
Fans can catch the full ad during Super Bowl Sunday, February 9, just ahead of the big game. The pregame show kicks off at 2 PM EST, with the game starting at 6 PM EST on Fox.
