On this day in 1972, the late Sean Price, a cornerstone of Boot Camp Clik, was born. Known for his gritty lyricism, sharp wit, and unwavering presence in underground Hip-Hop, Price left a lasting mark on the culture.

His first major appearance came on Smif-N-Wessun’s 1995 album Dah Shinin’, before making waves as one-half of Heltah Skeltah alongside Rock. The duo released their debut album, Nocturnal, in 1996 under Duck Down Records, followed by Magnum Force (1998) and D.I.R.T. (2008).

By the 2000s, Price had solidified himself as an underground heavyweight. His 2005 solo debut, Monkey Barz, earned critical acclaim, peaking at #70 on the Billboard Hip-Hop chart and remaining a cult classic among both independent and mainstream artists. He followed up with Jesus Price Supastar (#196 on Billboard 200) and Mic Tyson (#59 on Billboard 200), further cementing his reputation as a lyrical force.

Tragically, Sean Price passed away in his sleep on August 8, 2015. While the exact cause of death remains unknown, his impact was undeniable—fans raised $72,883 in just four days to assist his family with funeral expenses. Two years later, his posthumous album Imperius Rex was released, adding to his legacy of classic material within Boot Camp Clik and Duck Down Records.

Today, we honor Sean Price, a true Hip Hop icon whose influence continues to inspire. Rest in power, P!
