Sayso P’s Mother Alleges Her Son Was “Set Up” In Sauce Walka Shooting

Memphis rapper Sayso P, born Latorian Hunt, tragically lost his life on March 22 in a shooting near the FedExForum in Downtown Memphis. The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear, though police believe it to have been a targeted attack. In the wake of his death, Sayso P’s mother, Toya Redwing, has spoken out, expressing her belief that her son’s life was taken as part of a setup.

Redwing shared her thoughts on the incident in a Facebook post on March 24, denying rumors that her son had been involved in any criminal activity leading up to his death. “This is the type of lies and sh*t that keep mothers losing our sons,” she wrote. “My son never stole anything. Never ran off with anything. Didn’t have to. Haters set him up but not because he stole a dime.”

She strongly rejected the claims that Sayso P was engaged in illegal activity, emphasizing that her son was always generous. “He would give you his last before he would steal anything,” she added, urging people to stop spreading rumors about him.

Redwing reflected on her son’s loyalty to others, suggesting that it may have played a role in the tragic outcome. “Too loyal to the wrong people was his biggest downfall,” she said. “But I won’t let y’all steal his legacy.” She concluded her post by praising her son’s character, stating, “People see him with a stack and say anything. That was his NORM!”

The Memphis Police Department has vowed to bring those responsible for Sayso P’s death to justice. “We want to assure our community and visitors that downtown Memphis is a safe place. This incident was not a random act of violence,” they stated. “Early indications are that the victims and suspects are known to each other.” The department further emphasized the premeditated nature of the shooting and pledged to use downtown camera footage and other available technologies to aid in the investigation.

Sauce Walka, who was also injured in the shooting, sustained non-life-threatening injuries. He later posted a video on social media, showing love to his fallen comrade and sharing his plans to visit the spots in Memphis that Sayso had told him about before his untimely death.
