Stephen Curry and Michelle Obama Partner to Introduce Healthy Sports Drink, Plezi Hydration

Just when you thought he won enough, Stephen Curry, the four-time NBA champion, is about to take winning to another level. Curry has teamed up with former First Lady Michelle Obama to launch a new, healthier alternative to traditional sports drinks. The duo unveiled Plezi Hydration on Wednesday, a product developed under Obama’s public benefit company, Plezi Nutrition. This collaboration adds to Curry’s expanding off-court business ventures as he nears the later years of his basketball career.

Get this, Plezi Hydration enters a competitive market, but Curry is confident that the brand’s focus on wellness sets it apart. Unlike many of its competitors, the drink contains no added sugars or artificial sweeteners, has less sodium than other leading brands, and offers a full daily dose of vitamin C.

The name “Plezi,” which means “fun” in Creole, reflects the brand’s spirit. Plezi Hydration will be available in three vibrant flavors: Lemon Lime, Tropical Punch, and Orange Mango Twist, with Curry’s personal favorite being the Orange Mango Twist. The drinks will be sold in California at major retailers like Walmart, Albertsons, and Safeway, and nationwide through Amazon. Each 16.9-ounce bottle will retail for $2.29 and contain just 70 calories.

“We’ve created something with smart ingredients and unbeatable flavor, so people can fuel their bodies the right way. No nonsense, no shortcuts — because the next generation deserves better,” said Curry in a statement.

Plezi’s launch is not just the result of Curry’s investment; he was actively involved in the development process, from the beverage formula to the packaging. His wife, Ayesha, with her culinary expertise, also contributed to the creation and taste of the drink.

“We’re excited to provide a delicious, healthier option for everyone who’s trying to get active and stay hydrated,” said Michelle Obama, co-founder and strategic partner at Plezi Nutrition.

ICYMI, Obama founded Plezi Nutrition in 2023 with the mission to promote a healthier generation of kids, building on the success of her “Let’s Move!” campaign from her time in the White House. Curry, through his nonprofit Eat. Learn. Play., which he and Ayesha launched in 2019, has also been a long-time advocate for nutrition and wellness. The two organizations have worked together on events, with Plezi providing beverages for participants.
