Fans eager to catch the excitement of Major League Baseball’s Opening Day were left frustrated as MLB.TV, the league’s streaming service, crashed just as the season got underway. Thousands of subscribers hoping to watch the first games of 2025 were met with playback errors and endless loading screens, derailing their Opening Day experience.
Even though MLB posted instructions on how to check out Opening Day games as shown HERE, social media quickly filled with complaints as fans vented their displeasure with MLB.TV’s technical difficulties. As of 1:04 PST on March 27, Downdetector.com reported over 21,000 outage incidents, with many fans unable to access live games or even get the service to load. MLB.TV, which has a history of issues ranging from poor interface design to its restrictive blackout policies, once again found itself under fire from disgruntled subscribers.

Though the league has yet to issue a statement, the massive social media uproar suggests that the tech team behind MLB.TV is working overtime to resolve the issues. Fans, however, have been left frustrated, especially given the paid nature of the service, which promised a smooth streaming experience for the new season.
Fortunately, by the time later games began, some fans reported being able to finally get back to the action, but the damage had been done for many who missed out on the initial games.
With 161 more games on the schedule for each team, there’s plenty of baseball left to enjoy—but MLB.TV’s Opening Day hiccups have already left a bad taste in the mouths of its most loyal, paying subscribers.
