Just a few weeks shy of the eight-year anniversary of the music festival that never was, it appears that Fyre Fest 2 may actually happen. Maybe. Possibly, depending on who you ask.
Earlier this year, festival organizer Billy McFarland had teased Isla Mujeras as a possible location for the festival before switching to Playa Del Carmen in Mexico. However, last month, officials in Playa Del Carmen publicly stated that they did not know about such an event (which is scheduled to take place May 30-June 2), nor had anyone filed the proper paperwork or permit applications.
However, McFarland says this is untrue, taking to Instagram to share a timeline of events suggesting that applications, permits, and other required documentation had been filed in an orderly and compliant manner with the caption: “FYRE has been working directly with the government of Playa del Carmen (PDC) and their officials since March 5, 2025 to ensure a safe and successful event. All media reports suggesting our team has not been working with the government of PDC are simply inaccurate and based on misinformation. FYRE has operated as a good partner with PDC government and has followed the proper processes and procedures to lawfully host an event. We will be sharing all relevant permits, payments, and communications.”

Even if the required permits are in place, there is still the big question about what artists will be at the event. Interviewers with TMZ pressed McFarland as to what artists would be performing, noting that it seems fairly unreasonable to expect attendees to buy tickets without knowing the artist lineup, to which McFarland awkwardly asked, “Isn’t it crazy that a music fest without any artists has this much buzz? Maybe the marketing plan is working.”
While McFarland promised to announce artists “soon,” he said he has booked a prominent female DJ leading a shark excursion at the festival before performing at the event.
