SOURCE SPORTS: Former MLB All-Star Rafael Furcal Arrested, Charged With Aggravated Battery

Former Major League Baseball shortstop Rafael Furcal, a three-time All-Star known for his speed and glove work, was arrested Wednesday in Florida on serious felony charges, TMZ Sports has confirmed.

According to official court records, Furcal, 47, surrendered to authorities around 2:15 PM after a warrant for his arrest was issued earlier in the week by the Sunrise Police Department. He is now facing two felony charges: one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and another for allegedly throwing a deadly missile into an occupied vehicle.

While details regarding the incident remain unclear, initial reports indicate that the charges may be linked to an altercation involving a truck driver. Requests for further information from the Sunrise Police Department have not yet been returned.

Furcal was briefly taken into custody but posted bond shortly after his arrest and was released.

The Dominican-born infielder began his MLB career in 2000 with the Atlanta Braves at 22 years old and quickly earned National League Rookie of the Year honors. Throughout 14 seasons, Furcal became a respected presence on the field, later suiting up for the Los Angeles Dodgers, St. Louis Cardinals, and Miami Marlins. He compiled a career batting average of .281, hit 113 home runs, and stole 314 bases. He was also a key part of the Cardinals’ 2011 World Series championship team.

As the case develops, more details about the alleged incident will emerge. Once admired for his prowess on the diamond, Furcal now faces serious legal trouble off the field.
