After a three-year break, Drake is bringing the vibes back home. OVO Fest is officially returning to Toronto this summer.
Who was it that called Drake a proverbial “corpse?” We won’t say that person’s name but there was a lot of that going around and it seems like Drake is quietly on a winning streak, when you take the success of $ome $exy $ongs 4 U going platinum in 90 days, not to mention Nokia being the unofficial song of the summer.
Back to OVO Fest. The 6 God himself broke the news in classic Drake fashion, surprising fans with an impromptu appearance during British rapper Central Cee’s concert in Toronto. Without any warning, the Grammy-winning hitmaker stepped on stage and dropped the news:
“I’ll see you this summer by the way. OVO Fest will be back this year.”
But wait, Drizzy didn’t stop there. Hinting at a stacked lineup and some international flavor, he turned to Central Cee and added:
“We’ll need you there for that.”
Though no formal details have been released yet—no dates, no lineup, no venue—Drake’s confirmation was enough to send fans into a frenzy, especially after years of waiting.
Okay so, the last time OVO Fest took over Toronto was in 2022, and it was a certified moment in Hip Hop history. Drake reunited on stage with his Young Money family—Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj—for a night of nostalgia, hits, and pure fan service. That year’s surprise announcement also happened during a British rapper’s Canadian tour stop, when Drake joined Dave on stage at REBEL.
Back then, he praised the Top Boy star in front of the packed crowd:
“Toronto, please, like I said, this guy right here is a once in a generation talent. Whether he’s rapping, pouring out his heart, whether he’s turning all the way up, whether he’s playing the piano, whether he’s acting in our show, Top Boy, I promise you this guy right here is a one of one. Make some muthafin’ noise for Dave.”
He closed with a message to fans hungry for live music:
“I love you with all my heart. They let the city back open so I will see you at OVO Fest soon.”
One thing is for sure outside of OVO Fest, Drake clearly loves his fans and they have been nothing short of loyal.
