Soulful songstress Jessie J just dropped news heavier than any chart-topping beat she’s ever laid vocals on. The British vocalist known for her booming pipes and no-holds-barred energy revealed she’s been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer. Dang.
In a heartfelt and raw video posted on the gram on June 3, the 37-year-old singer opened up about her private battle. She shared that doctors delivered the diagnosis nine weeks ago just ahead of the release of her single No Secrets in April. Even in the face of a serious medical hurdle Jessie J didn’t lose her signature spark.
“It’s a very dramatic way to get a boob job” she quipped with a smirk that masked the weight of her situation.
Taking to the gram again Jessie laid it all out with grace wit and a little cheeky flair. “No (more) Secrets and is it too soon to do a remix called ‘Living my breast life’?” she posted. “All jokes aside (You know it’s one of the ways I get through hard times) This last 2 months have been so amazing and having this go on along side it on the sideline’s has given me the most incredible perspective. BUT… Your girl needs a hug. Also not getting massive tits. Or am I? No no… I must stop joking.”
The singer plans to undergo surgery following her June 15 set at London’s Summertime Ball. While initially hesitant to speak publicly about her diagnosis she chose transparency over silence hoping to connect with others on similar journeys. As always she kept it real and uplifting letting fans know that she’s standing strong.
