Houston rapper Maxo Kream’s 2025 took an unfortunate turn this week, as he was arrested in Harris County, Texas, following a traffic stop that escalated into a gun-related arrest.
According to TMZ Hip Hop, the 35-year-old artist was initially pulled over for driving with an expired license plate. Authorities claim that after initially stopping, Maxo, whose real name is Emekwanem Biosah Jr., briefly drove away when an officer exited their vehicle, only to pull over again shortly after. He was subsequently taken into custody without further incident.
Police reportedly discovered two firearms in Maxo Kream’s vehicle and charged him with unlawful possession of a weapon, citing his alleged status as a documented gang member. In addition to the gun charge, he also faces a misdemeanor count for allegedly fleeing from police.
His attorney, Carl A. Moore, issued a statement disputing the accusations: “Maxo did not flee from the police, he complied with the commands of the arresting officer. We plan to fight these accusations in court.”
Maxo Kream’s next court appearance is scheduled for July 7.
The arrest follows the recent release of music videos from his 2024 album Personification, a project that received praise for its introspective themes and sharp storytelling.
