The lyrical tension between Joyner Lucas and Skepta has officially exploded into a full-on war of words. What started as a transatlantic challenge has now become one of the most talked-about battles in the culture, with both artists refusing to back down.
Skepta recently reignited the beef with his record “Round 2,” building on his earlier challenge to go bar for bar with an American emcee. “I want to clash with an American rapper. Let’s finally put this UK/US rap discussion to rest,” he said, setting the stage for a heavyweight showdown.
Originally eyeing A$AP Rocky, Skepta found a willing contender in Joyner Lucas, who quickly stepped into the ring. “The moment I’ve been waiting for… say the word, Joyner Lucas vs. @Skepta. #UKvsUS,” Lucas posted on socials.
Skepta responded with a mix of props and provocation: “Hey Jonah, I wasn’t even gonna reply back but I’m a rapper’s rapper. I have to respect that you stood up,” while still casting doubt on Joyner’s stature in the rap scene.
After Skepta dropped “Friendly Fire,” Lucas followed up with the blistering “Nobody Cares,” where he didn’t hold back. “Maybe you’re mad because you ain’t got buzz up in the U.K. no more / I heard your career just ain’t what it was and you don’t get paid no more,” he fired. Then came the knockout line: “After I body you, I don’t want you ever saying my name anymore.”
Now, Joyner is doubling down with “Round 2 K.O.,” a savage sequel meant to finish what he started. With this track, he’s aiming not just to defend his name, but to shift the narrative in the larger UK versus US debate.
