Tyler Perry is officially bringing the gang back together. The acclaimed writer and director has confirmed that Why Did I Get Married 3 is in the works, setting the stage for the return of one of his most beloved film franchises.
Perry announced in true cryptic fashion, posting a photo of the script’s title page to the Gram on July 30 with the caption, “I’m just gonna sit this right here!” The script was labeled “Table Draft,” signaling that the project is moving into the early stages of production.
He tagged the core cast in the post, which includes Jill Scott, Janet Jackson, Lamman Rucker, Richard T. Jones, Sharon Leal, Michael Jai White, and Tasha Smith. Denise Boutte, who portrayed Trina, jumped into the comments to campaign for her return, writing, “Who thinks Trina needs a comeback?!?!”
Tasha Smith echoed the excitement with a comment saying, “Are we going to be TOGETHER AGAIN,” followed by her own repost of the script photo and the single word: “BOOM.” Longtime fans of the series will instantly recognize the phrase from the iconic dinner table showdown in the original film.
Talk of a third installment picked up steam back in October 2024, when Richard T. Jones went viral on TikTok with a playful video referencing his character leaving Sheila, played by Scott, stranded in the mountains in the first film. The clip triggered a wave of response videos from fellow cast members, reigniting public interest in the series. Janet Jackson was the only one who didn’t chime in, but fans have been hopeful ever since.
With cast members already engaging online and Perry confirming the wheels are in motion, it looks like audiences will finally get another chapter in the story of these complicated marriages. Stay tuned as the third installment of Why Did I Get Married starts to take shape.
