Memphis Hosted First People’s Hip Hop Awards Despite Losing Major Partner

In case you missed it, the very first People’s Hip Hop Awards took place last Sunday night at the Cannon Center for Performing Arts in Memphis, even after a key sponsor unexpectedly backed out of the project.

Tbh it’s not easy taking on such a huge endeavor especially after losing a major partner.

Originally announced earlier this year as a collaboration between the For Us By Us network and Telecast Media Group, the show faced a setback when FUBU dropped out for reasons that have not yet been disclosed. Still, Telecast Media Group CEO Mike Dockery pushed forward to make sure the event happened.

“We didn’t want to let the people down,” said Roxie Nunnally of 4D Marketing, another lead sponsor for the awards. “I mostly go on the west coast, east coast to other big award shows, so I’m excited that I can be here in my hometown and be able to participate in such a powerful event.”

The night interestingly was hosted by actor Omar Gooding alongside singer Lil’ Rounds, with live performances that included Memphis native Big Boogie and Atlanta’s own Princess of Crime Mob.

Looks like Omar Gooding is getting booked after all despite what Cam’Ron recently said in their ongoing issues. We certainly won’t call it beef. Not that serious in our opinion.

Anywho, despite the challenges, the debut of the People’s Hip Hop Awards still delivered a celebration of culture, music, and community in the heart of Memphis.
