Boosie Badazz is staring down the possibility of a lengthy prison term after officially pleading guilty in a federal firearm case tied to his 2023 arrest. The Louisiana artist appeared before a federal judge in San Diego on Tuesday, August 26, where he admitted to the charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm. That conviction carries a maximum penalty of 15 years behind bars.
The case stems from a May 2023 traffic stop when officers searched a car Boosie was riding in and discovered two firearms. Although state charges were initially filed and later dropped, federal prosecutors chose to move forward, citing laws that prohibit convicted felons from having access to guns. His legal team previously questioned the fairness of these rules, referencing recent Supreme Court rulings related to nonviolent offenders and the Second Amendment, but the challenge was unsuccessful.
After entering his plea, Boosie spoke with CBS 8 San Diego about the weight of the case on his career and personal life. “I want to put it behind me,” he explained. “I want to get it behind me and get on with my life. You know, it’s a lot of things this case has stopped me from doing, traveling all across the world, so I just want to get it over with.”
His attorney highlighted Boosie’s commitment to giving back, pointing out his involvement in community programs and charitable work. “I’m optimistic,” she said, expressing hope for a favorable outcome when sentencing takes place. For now, Boosie remains free on a $100,000 bond as he awaits his court date in November 2025.
The rapper also addressed the matter directly on socials earlier this month, writing in all caps, “JUST ACCEPTED A PLEA FROM THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT ON MY GUN CASE. I THOUGHT THIS CASE WAS OVER N I WAS GOING TO GET ON WITH MY LIFE BUT ‘GOD DONT MAKE MISTAKES’ N IM TIRED OF FIGHTING.”
