Retired NFL MVP Cam Newton has signed a new multi-year agreement with ESPN and is set to take on an expanded role on the network’s signature morning debate show, First Take. The announcement comes as ESPN has undergone recent changes to its on-air talent roster.
Newton is scheduled to make his return to the show this Thursday during a live broadcast at Norfolk State University, as part of the First Take HBCU tour. He will be joining a panel that includes veteran personalities Stephen A. Smith, host Molly Qerim, and Chris “Mad Dog” Russo.
ESPN executives expressed enthusiasm about the new partnership. David Roberts, Executive Vice President, Executive Editor, Sports News and Entertainment at ESPN, stated that Newton is a “unique talent who is authentically himself, and that’s a key ingredient for success on First Take.” He added that the network is looking forward to watching Newton connect with his teammates and fans.
Newton also shared his excitement about the new role. “I am excited to be back with the First Take team and share my voice on all things sports,” he said. “This is an incredible opportunity for me to connect with fans and bring my passion and knowledge to a show I’ve always admired.” The deal marks a new chapter for Newton as he transitions further into sports media.
