Warren G, the legendary Long Beach native who helped define West Coast hip hop in the 1990s, is stepping into the world of baseball ownership. Best known for his 1994 classic “Regulate,” the rapper/producer popularized the G-funk sound and was a member of the influential trio 213 alongside Snoop Dogg and the late Nate Dogg. His platinum-selling debut album Regulate… G Funk Era and string of hits solidified him as one of the architects of California hip hop culture.
Now, the Grammy-nominated artist is bringing that same entrepreneurial and community-driven spirit to his hometown by joining the ownership group of the newly formed Long Beach Baseball Club.
“This is more than just owning part of a team, it’s about giving back to my city,” Warren G said in a statement. “Long Beach shaped me, and I want to help build something positive for the next generation. Baseball brings people together, and that’s what I’m all about.”
Warren G has even pitched an idea for the team name: the Long Beach Regulators, in honor of his iconic single. “I love baseball. I’m a huge Dodger fan, but now we’re going to have another team for everybody to root for, too, just like the Dodgers. We got the Long Beach Regulators,” he told local media.
The independent professional team plans to make Blair Field, also home to Long Beach State’s Dirtbags, its home ballpark, with hopes of officially joining the Pioneer Baseball League for the 2026 season. While independent from Major League Baseball, the league partners with MLB on initiatives designed to support player development.
According to a team press release, fans can expect “an atmosphere that celebrates Long Beach through music, food, and community events, with potential for special performances, collaborative merchandise, and celebrity appearances.”
For Warren G, this venture brings his journey full circle; fusing the cultural influence of hip hop with the communal power of baseball, and continuing his legacy of representing Long Beach on every stage he touches.
