Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson is adding another heavyweight project to his growing TV empire. On Monday, September 8, he announced on socials that he has secured the rights to Paid in Full, the 2002 cult classic crime drama, and is now developing it into a premium television series.
“I now have the rights to PAID IN FULL, I’m developing it into a premium TV show. If you like Godfather of Harlem you’re gonna love this. Cam set to Executive produce along side me, if you want in get at him I’m out of the country,” 50 wrote, making it clear he intends to expand the film’s legacy into long form storytelling.
If you recall, the original movie starred Wood Harris, Mekhi Phifer, and Cam’ron, and told the story of Harlem’s 1980s drug scene through fictionalized portrayals of Azie Faison, Rich Porter, and Alpo Martinez. For 50, the move adds to his dominance in the crime drama space, building on the massive success of Power and its spinoffs, as well as BMF, which has further established his reputation for street rooted prestige TV. Cam’ron, who brought the character Rico to life in the film, confirmed his new role as executive producer with an excited post on the Gram. “So we’ve been talking about this for a few months now, and it’s almost time. Thx @50cent for the opportunity my n***a. We gonna burn this shit down!!”
Cam’s involvement ties the original to its new vision, giving fans a sense of authenticity while reigniting interest in a story that has remained a staple of hip hop culture for more than two decades.
The announcement has already sparked chatter, including commentary from the ever-vocal Dame Dash. See his opinion below. He basically says 50 Cent is Cam’Ron’s “new boss.” Watch for yourself.
