Whelp, the Young Thug saga rolls on. The latest batch of leaked jail calls from Young Thug has added new fuel to the ongoing YSL drama, this time connecting Drake directly to the tension between Thug and Gunna. In the audio, Thugger is heard saying that Drake’s bars on his Business Is Business album were aimed squarely at Gunna.
“Drake go straight at his a** tho in the song… Drake did an intro and went right at his a** in the worst way, in the worst way… I’m like ‘God damn,’” Thug said in the call. He doubled down by adding, “He trippin’ on the intro, poppin’ on his a**… first eight bars talking mad to this boy. N**a you trippin’. How we ain’t see this? I don’t talk sht like that.”
Thug was referring to “Parade On Cleveland,” one of two tracks on the 2023 project featuring Drake, alongside “Oh U Went.” On “Parade On Cleveland,” the Toronto star raps:
“It ain’t gon’ be sexy when I get my lick back, I’m about to mop up some boys, it’s custodian time
Me and my thoughts is the loneliest time
Don’t tell me ’bout loyalty, show me this time, don’t tell me ’bout loyalty, show me this time
Business is business, you owe me this time
Slime on your head, Nickelodeon time.”
The loyalty theme cuts deep, given Gunna’s fractured relationship with Thug following the YSL RICO case. While the two rappers collaborated closely for years on songs like “Ski” and Drake’s “P Power” and “Never Recover,” Gunna’s plea deal in 2022 sparked speculation of betrayal within the camp.
Speaking recently on the Perspektives With Bank podcast, Thug addressed the strain. “Was Gunna takin’ that plea harmful to me? Yes, 100%,” he admitted. “How can you just do what you did to me and then just go live your life? Like ain’t nothing happened?” Still, Thug said he doesn’t hold hate in his heart, adding, “I love you bruh… I poured so much into him, I can’t even hate him. In jail I thought I hated him… But I don’t wish no ill will on him, no ill feelings at all.”
