Today marks three years since the tragic death of Philadelphia rapper PnB Rock, who was fatally shot during a robbery at Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles in Los Angeles on Sept. 11, 2022. He was only 30 years old.
Born Rakim Allen, PnB Rock emerged from Philly’s Germantown section, breaking through with his melodic blend of rap and R&B that helped shape the sound of the mid-to-late 2010s. With hits like “Selfish,” “Fleek,” and “Everyday We Lit” alongside YFN Lucci, he carved out a lane for himself as one of the most versatile voices of his generation. His ability to balance street-rooted lyrics with radio-ready hooks made him a fan favorite and a respected artist among his peers.
In the years leading up to his untimely passing, PnB Rock collaborated with some of the biggest names in music, including Meek Mill, Pop Smoke, Chance The Rapper, Ed Sheeran, and A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie. His sound connected hip hop, R&B, and melodic rap in a way that influenced a wave of younger artists who followed his blueprint.
His death was a devastating reminder of how senseless violence continues to rob hip hop of rising stars too soon. Still, his legacy lives on through his music, his collaborations, and the loyal fan base that continues to celebrate his work.
Today, we remember PnB Rock not just for the tragic way he left us, but for the impact he made in the short time he was here. His voice, his melodies, and his energy remain a part of hip hop history. Rest in peace to PnB Rock.
