Jay-Z’s Pitch To Bring A Casino To Times Square

Jay-Z is making a major bet on his hometown. In a new interview with City & State New York, the Roc Nation mogul explained why he and his team are putting forward a $250 million proposal to open a casino at 1515 Broadway, right in the heart of Times Square. He is partnering with developers SL Green and Caesars on the ambitious project.

Hov spoke at a Community Advisory Committee hearing on September 11, stressing that the move is about more than gaming tables and slot machines. To him, the location is a natural fit. “New York City is the entertainment capital of the world,” he said. “For me, it’s an extension of culture, an extension of the energy and action that makes New York the city it is.”

The Empire State of Mind rapper made it clear he wants the project to serve both tourists and the people who actually live in the city. He pointed to the potential for new jobs, business opportunities, and investments that could directly benefit Black and working class communities. “Our vision is to build a destination that not only attracts visitors but also gives New Yorkers a place they’re proud to enjoy. A casino here doesn’t compete with Times Square, it complements it,” Jay explained.

Framed as a cultural shift as much as an economic one, the plan promises “lasting benefits through meaningful partnerships and investments.” With the proposal now in play, all eyes are on whether Jay-Z and his partners can make Times Square the newest hotbed for entertainment and opportunity in New York City.
