One Battle After Another is a modern revolutionary masterpiece that’s sure to spark controversy and conversation. It’s the latest entry from There Will Be Blood and Phantom Thread director Paul Thomas Anderson, somehow managing to surpass both with an exhilarating story of family, legacy and hope for the future.
With immigration raids, armed police, and violent protests, OBAA feels like a film fresh out of our time and ripped straight from the headlines. Loosely based on the 1990 novel Vineland by Thomas Pynchon, OBAA follows Bob Ferguson (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Perfidia Beverly Hills (Teyana Taylor) in their early days as young American revolutionaries fighting against what they see as government persecution and its leaders, like Col. Steven J. Lockjaw ( Sean Penn). But when Bob & Perfidia have a child named Willa (Chase Infiniti) their lives as revolutionaries are upended & Bob is left caring for Willa alone. 15 years after their revolutionary adventures, Lockjaw is now on the hunt for Bob and Willa, leading to a cat-and-mouse chase unlike anything ever put to screen.
