We’re back! After a brief hiatus, New Threads is resuming this week with a brand that has you covered for the wicked nightlife out there. Sav Noir is here to gear you up for the “savage life.” It’s creator describes the brand as a “twist to the colorful lifestyle for the Sav client who is constantly surrounded by light, noise, and the many faces of this world.” You can purchase any of their pieces from their website and check out the new video look book for the 1980’s collection. If you’ve been following Vinny Cha$e at all on Instagram, you already know Sav is making moves coast to coast.
And for those unfamiliar, New Threads is a fresh column we’ll be executing to celebrate independent fashion companies and the minds behind them. A teenager in an American suburb with a dope idea and a few bucks should be given mad props, if they’re due, just like your favorite luxury brand. We’ll pick a creator that deserves your attention and ask him/her a few questions, including our Final Four questions we ask all of our creators for that month. Why did you create Sav Noir?
I created Sav Noir because I wanted to tell the world my story and share my vision.
What does Sav Noir mean? And what does it mean to you?
Sav Noir means and represents “savages of the night”, night beasts, and black savage. Sav Noir is a brand that caters to the night life community.
What would you say are some pros and cons of being a “Sav Noir?”
The cons are, having to “go against the grain” and dealing with the ignorance of society. The pros are being a rebel, voicing your outlook upon the world. Being unique and genuine-knowing that you are a survivor among this society ruled by corporate America.
You have three collections/capsules: 1980s, Bricks, and the Signature. Can you talk about the inspiration and unique qualities of each? Then can you tell us how they all fit under the Sav Noir brand?
All three collections represent the diversity of the brand. In terms of the 1980’s collection, we are focusing on the events which occurred in that era. From corruption in politics to the people’s rebellion against the government. From crack cocaine to the aids epidemic. To the breaking down of the Berlin Wall… from Regan to Oliver North. And that being a time in which, the old world was transitioning into the new world. For the Bricks capsule collection, it personally symbolizes how it takes bricks to build a wall. A wall being my foundation, starting from a singular, small object to create something bigger. Like starting from a dream to eventually create a movement. Lastly, the Signature collection is a representation of the brand’s evolution. This collection is focused on more “cut and sew” oriented attire, to show the growth from a matured fashion standpoint. All of these collections fit under the Sav Noir brand because each collection resembles a different demographic. How they tie into each other is that it shows all kinds of people, from all walks of life… falling under the umbrella of the same movement. Basically, underneath it all, we are all savages by nature.
