Hattie Stewart ‘Doodlebombs’ Beyonce, Rihanna and More For Upcoming Exhibition

If you’ve ever taken the public transportation in New York City or anywhere really, you’re probably familiar with “doodlebombing”. Doodlebombing is when an “artist” draws over an advertisement or picture that holds one context and draws on top of it to give the picture another (usually lewd) context. Artist Hattie Stewart, the self proclaimed “professional doodler”, uses this art form in her visually striking upcoming exhibition, “Hello Cheeky”.

Using many iconic magazine covers, Stewart reimagines them using mesmerizing patterns, shapes, and visual effects with an aesthetic similar to that of famed graffiti and pop art crusader, Keith Haring. The tongue-in-cheek art pieces span the spectrum of vibrance and fun to dark and grim — with many leaving the viewer to wonder what exact message she is trying to convey. Pop cultures most prominent icons of now and of decades past are featured, with the likes of Queen Bey, Rih Rih, Miley Cyrus, Marilyn Monroe and even Grace Jones receiving her enchanting, provocative doodle treatment.
