Since being hired as the head coach of the reeling New York Jets back in 2009, Rex Ryan has always found a way to remain in the headlines. Whether it be his annual guarantees that his team would win the Super Bowl, or his foot fetish video with his wife, things are always strange in the world of Rex. While the Jets coach, Ryan got a tattoo of his wife on his arm, sporting a #6 Jets jersey. Of course, 6 was the number worn by former NY quarterback Mark Sanchez.

In the beginning of his tenure with gang green, Ryan led the team to two consecutive AFC Championship games, but in recent years failed to make the playoffs, while also toiling amongst the leagues worst teams. At the end of the 2014 season, Ryan was fired by the Jets but remained in-state as Western New York’s Buffalo Bills hired him as the new head coach. This put Ryan in quite a predicament when it came to his Jets tattoo.

According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, Rex paid a visit to a Arizona based tattoo parlor during Super Bowl weekend and had the Jersey color on his arm altered from Jets green to Bills blue.

On Thursday, he called a Scottsdale, Ariz., tattoo parlor called Old Town Ink, said Ben Verhoek, an artist there. Mr. Verhoek said Mr. Ryan explained his dilemma like this: “It’s like a girl in a jersey and I wanted to change the colors of it.”

Mr. Verhoek realized who the customer was only when the coach, clad in a Buffalo Bills tracksuit, and his wife showed up at the shop Friday afternoon. The artist looked at the tattoo and then at Mrs. Ryan.

“Is that supposed to be you?” he asked.

She said yes.

“I see the resemblance,” Mr. Verhoek said.
