Train crash in Philadelphia leaves six dead and scores hospitalized
Late Tuesday night, an Amtrak train leaving from Washington D.C and scheduled to arrive at New York City suddenly derailed off the tracks in the Port Richmond neighborhood of Philadelphia. 5 people were killed with a sixth dying at the hospital. Eight are listed in critical condition and 140 have been hospitalized. According to sources, the train left Washington D.C. to arrive at New York Penn Station for 10:34 pm. There were 238 people on board with five crew members.
The train got to the Port Richmond neighborhood when the trains began to shake and came to a sudden stop and then derailed according to witnesses. Six cars and an engine went off the tracks. The crash was so bad that according to a witness, the front part of the train is mangled and just looks like, “a pile of metal”. The conductor was one of those who were injured and will speak to investigators Wednesday. During a press conference, Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter said that the black box was discovered and is going to be analyzed.
Even though passengers have been accounted for there are still some people missing including the CEO of ApprenNet Rachel Jacobs. Questlove went on Twitter to tell fans that philly based producer Yameen Allworld was on the ill fated train and is doing fine.
