49ers Trade Pro Bowl TE Vernon Davis to Broncos for Draft Picks

After getting blown out on Sunday by the St. Louis Rams, the San Francisco 49ers officially waved the white flag on their season by trading away their Pro-Bowl tight end Vernon Davis to the Denver Broncos.

The Broncos will also receive a 2016 seventh-round pick, the 49ers will get the Broncos sixth-round pick in 2016 and 2017.

Davis has 441 receptions for 5,640 yards and 55 touchdowns in his career, and will be looked upon to fill the role of former TE Julius Thomas, who left via free-agency.

Though Davis is a clear upgrade at the position, he hasn’t been the same player since the 2013 season. He recorded 13 touchdowns in 2013, since then, he’s only recorded two. Interestingly enough, the drop-off occurred at the same time that Colin Kaepernick became the full time starter.

Davis will look to gain new life in Denver as Peyton Manning has completed 57.5 percent of his passes to tight ends this season.
